Social sharing buttons - what to do with them in 2026?

Published by on May 5th.

The social networks buttons used to be a thing every web site needed to include 15 years ago and they are still around, but are they actually used? The focus of this blog post is on the large buttons shown on icon sets, cursor sets, and individual item pages.

The site currently includes buttons for sharing on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bluesky. These are not the native buttons provided by those services, specifically to avoid tracking user activity on this site. Even so, they take up a fairly visible spot on the page. The original idea was to make it easier to share artwork, but it's not clear whether they actually help with that, or just draw attention away from the content and promote external platforms.

So I'd like to hear your opinion. Which of these options makes the most sense?

If you have a preference, let me know. If you've ever used them (or intentionally ignored them), that's also useful to know.

id say either remove them or move them somewhere else less prominent.
I'm not to sure how often people use those buttons to be that honest.

I agree with The Male Boss's opinion. I personally don't use them, and I don't know if anybody else does - by nibbler on May 5th
